Reading is Contagious on Social Media

Swedish book publisher spreads a love of reading with social media campaign for World Book Day.

April 23 is World Book Day and Bonnierförlagen, the Swedish book publisher, is spreading a little extra love when it comes to reading.

"We want social media to explode with photos of books and reading," says Karin Schyffert, who works with digital marketing at Bonnierförlagen. 

What the publisher is doing is pushing a campaign on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The campaign asks users to share pictures of themselves reading, ask others what they're reading, and to use a range of hashtags in Swedish such as #LäsningSmittar (reading is contagious), #Titel (title) and #Författaren (author).

The social media users who get the most likes and favorites in each channel will win a package of books from the publisher. The contest runs until April 27, 2014.

"During the current national election year, with political parties focusing on schools and reading issues, we at Bonnierförlagen want to highlight love of reading. We work with books, stories and reading because we get so much from it, and we want to give it back and spread the word!"
